Review of the Kick-off Meeting, February 17–18, 2025
On February 17 and 18, 2025, the two-day kick-off meeting of the “Bioethics and Structural Injustice” network took place at the University of Bremen. The meeting offered members the opportunity to get to know each other, define initial research priorities and develop joint working methods.
A keynote speech on intersectional cooperation by Amma Yeboah kicked off the substantive debate.

The participants then discussed possible joint research interests in a World Café: How can care traditions be overcome? What responsibility do institutions and individuals bear for structural injustice in the healthcare system? What are the limits of participatory research in the context of structural barriers? The discussion was structured along four key dimensions: access and discrimination, care, responsibility and vulnerability. The role of the researchers themselves in responsibly shaping projects on the health of marginalized groups was particularly emphasized. With regard to future collaboration within the network, the members shared their own expertise and collected ideas for future cooperation.
On the second day, the participants reflected on their own positioning in research as part of a workshop on situated writing. The next network meeting will take place in September 2025 under the title “Public Health Ethics, Structural Injustice, and Vulnerability”.
